PROject Waveland Trolley monument

Project Waveland Trolley Monument raised funds to complete an educational memorial honoring the historic Trolley System of Des Moines.

An important piece of Des Moines’ transportation history has been preserved and recognized.  The $275,000 project updated the original trolley loop located near the Waveland Golf Course to include an interactive streetcar sculpture and interpretive signage.  This initiative transformed an historic but long-neglected site into an asset for the city of Des Moines. The Des Moines Historical Society, the Des Moines Streetcar Friends and the Waveland Park Neighborhood Association worked collaboratively to ensure the historic trolley line is long-remembered and understood.

The DMHS extends a heartfelt “Thank You” to the W.T. & Edna M. Dahl Trust for their donation of $100,000 towards this project. This generous donation moved us closer to our fund-raising goal to build this memorial, saving the rich Des Moines Trolley history and passing it along to generations to follow.
